Externship iimplies more direct patient care and involvment.

while observorship is “observation” only.

some programs do not count observorship as real US clinical experience.

in summary, externship is better than observorship, and both are much better than nothing!!

finding an observorship/externship is hard for those living in USA, so obviously harder if you live abroad.

In SAMA, we are trying to coordinate observorship for sudanese medical graduates in USA through our network of sudanese physicians (attendings, fellows, residents) working in USA, and have been able to facilitate a few positions.
