From reviewing this year's personal statements, it was surprising how similar they were, which is not good. Remember that personal statements are read by the residency selection committee at some point in the application process, and they usually read several at a time. You need to leave a big impression on the reader so that when you come into the interview he will remember your story.

To achieve this concentrate on selling points that make you different from the other applicants and talk about them in length:

Examples include

  • undergraduate extracurricular activies
  • Charitable activities: free health clinics
  • Research Experience
