The last week has seen a lot of activity which we would like to share with you.

1.       Observorships

SAMA has managed to find observorships for 3 residency match applicants, 2 have started in Chicago, IL, and Indianopolis, IN, the third is on his way to Detroit, MI.

We thank the attendings who arranged for these.

Attending/Fellows/Residents if you can arrange for an observorship please email us admin@sama-sd.org so that we can send you someone.

For those looking for an observorship, please email your CV as well to admin@sama-sd.org after filling the web application form. We will do our best to find you an observorship, but as you know it is not easy, so you must continue to look on your own using all your contacts.

2.       CV and Personal statements (PS)

The residency application season has started early and we reviewed 5 personal statements so far.

Attendings/Fellows/Residents we need more of you to volunteer to review them since we expect a large number of personal statements this year. For those who have volunteered to review, you will be receiving CVs and PSs and contact information of the applicants.

For those requesting personal statement review, in addition to the personal statement draft please also send your CV to admin@sama-sd.org

3.       USMLE/Residency Application advice

WE are pleased to inform you that Dr. Ahmed Bashendi, Chicago, IL will be moderator for SAMA USMLE forum  http://sama-sd.org/forum/usmle-exams, He has already posted some very useful tips/advice for Step 2 CS exam, which I encourage all applicants to read, since it appears that Sudanese graduates have a hard time with Step 2 CS.  

If you have any questions related to USMLE or Residency Application please post them on the forum.

4.       Overnight accommodation/airport transportation/general hospitality

We thank those who volunteered for this (11 physicians in 7 states), and ask more of you to come forwards by filling the application forum http://sama-sd.org/residency-m…..rt-request . We expect a large number of requests once the interview season begins in Oct 2010 to Feb 2011.

5.       Spread the word

Our mailing list of Sudanese physicians in USA to date includes 227 physicians, this is much lower than the total number of physicians in USA , so please spread the word about SAMA and what we are doing.
