D. Supporting Residency Match Applicants

Observerships

Our project continues with mixed results. Since the beginning of this year, we have managed secure observerships for 10 applicants; but struggle to find observerships for a further 12.

We especially have a shortage in attendings in internal medicine who would volunteer to take up observers. This is surprising given the large number of Internal Medicine Attendings of Sudanese origin in USA.

It takes only 2-3 clinical sessions in the office or hospital to generate an impression of the personal attributes of the applicant to write a letter of recommendation in support of his application. So, it can be as short as a couple of days. This letter makes the applicant much more competitive and can make the difference in matching or not matching.

We would also like to thank the following for sponsoring observers this match season 2011/2012:

Name Specialty City State
Khalid Mohamed (Bashom) Internal Medicine/Cardiology Detroit Michigan
Kamal Musa Ibrahim Internal Medicine Detroit Michigan
Mohamed Ibrahim OBGYN Rockingham North Carolina
Seema Nour Internal Medicine/ Cardiology Salisbury Maryland
Ezzeldin Saleh Pediatrics La Crosse Wisconsin
Abdalla Zarroug Pediatric Surgery Rochester Minnesota

If you can sponsor an observership, or know someone who can please email us match@sama-sd.org
