D. Supporting Residency Match Applicants

To coordinate all our activities in supporting Residency match applicants we have done the following:

  1. Set up the SAMA Professional Development Committee composed of the following:
    1. Mohamed Gaffer Elhassan, R1 Internal Medicine, New Jersey
    2. Nizar Taha Talaat, R2 Internal Medicine, Detroit, MI
    3. Ayman Eltayeb Elhag, R1 Prelim Surgery, Rochester, MN (starting July 2011)
    4. Reem Omara, R1 Internal Medicine, Atlanta, GA (starting July 2011)
    5. Salah Abusin, Cardiology Fellow, Chicago, IL
  2. For all correspondence related to Postgraduate medical training we have a dedicated email address match@sama-sd.org

 Observerships

We continue to have  a growing need  for observerships ( a waiting list of 8 match applicants). As you know, the Residency match is increasingly competitive and increasing number of applicants do not match. As we saw in the last residency match, the single best way of helping our kindred is by sponsoring an observership. http://sama-sd.org/match-season-2010-2011

It takes only 2-3 clinical sessions in the office or hospital to generate an impression of the personal attributes of the applicant to write a letter of recommendation in support of his application. So, it can be as short as a couple of days.

We would also like to thank the following for sponsoring observers this match season 2011/2012:

Name Specialty City State
Khalid Mohamed (Bashom) Internal Medicine/Cardiology Detroit Michigan
Kamal Musa Ibrahim  Internal Medicine  Detroit Michigan
Mohamed Ibrahim  OBGYN  Rockingham  North Carolina
Seema Nour Internal Medicine/ Cardiology  Salisbury  Maryland
Ezzeldin Saleh  Pediatrics  La Crosse Wisconsin
Abdalla Zarroug  Pediatric Surgery  Rochester Minnesota

If you can sponsor an observership, or know someone who can please email us match@sama-sd.org
