How to book the exact date for your USMLE exam (step 1 and step 2 CK)?

- After receiving the scheduling permit through IWA in your ECFMG account, you can schedule and book your exam date.
- Ideally you should finish this process within 3 to 4 months ahead of your desired date.(you can schedule sooner if you want to, it depends on how well prepared you are)
- Do not worry about cancellation;prometric centers have a fairly flexible policy when it comes to cancellation and rescheduling which would accommodate any urgent or unpredictable circumstances (within your eligibility period). Just make sure to plan early on to secure a seat for your exam in your desired date and test center.
- Note that if you need to reschedule your exam date outside your eligibility period, then you should apply to the ECFMG for an eligibility period extension, and then you can book your exam date using prometric services.
- To book a date for step 1 and step 2 ck, you should use prometric services. Start by visiting their website www.prometric.com .
- The whole scheduling process is online so all what you need are: a computer and an internet connection.
- After visiting the website www.prometric.com ,click on USMLE exams section, and then specify whether you want to schedule for step 1 or step 2 CK.
- You will need to specify the exact country in which you want to schedule your exam.
- However you will be limited by the eligibility region that you have already chosen in your online exam application.
- Then you will be given multiple choices (scheduling, rescheduling or cancelling an appointment). Click on the option that you need.
- To schedule an appointment: enter your scheduling number (provided in your scheduling permit) and the first 4 letters of your last name.
- Now you will be provided with the calendar for each month, the available dates, seats and the specific exam starting and finishing times. Choose your date and finish your appointment.
- You will be sent a confirmation for your appointment in your email; this will include all of the information of your appointment i.e. confirmation number, date, time and test location.
- You can locate your test center by obtaining a map from the prometric services website itself.
- You should save a copy of this appointment confirmation in a safe place and print it out later.
- It is very important to browse through the prometric services website to familiarize yourself with the cancellation and rescheduling policy.
- You can change the date as many times as you want within your eligibility period but you should know one thing:
To avoid an appointment change fee, you must change your appointment 31 or more days before (but not including) the first day of your scheduled test date. - Effective January 1, 2011, Prometric will charge a fee if USMLE examinees change testing appointments (e.g., reschedule, cancel, change test center location) at Prometric Test Centers thirty or fewer days before their scheduled test date. No fee is charged for changing testing appointments 31 or more days prior to the first day of the scheduled test.
The date that you change your appointment, using local time at the Regional Registration Center for the Prometric Testing Region, will determine whether you pay a fee and the amount of this fee:
If you change your appointment 31 or more days before (but not including) the first day of your scheduled test date, there is no fee.
If you change your appointment fewer than 31 days but more than 5 days before (but not including) the first day of your scheduled test date, there is a $50 fee.
If you change your appointment 5 or fewer days before (but not including) the first day of your scheduled test date, there is a higher fee. This fee varies by Prometric Testing Region and by exam. - If you fail to cancel your exam date within the time range that prometric centers specify, you should pay cancellation fees and you might be unable to book a date that might suit you.
- The most popular centers are in Cairo, Egypt and Dubai, UAE.
- You should note that it is more difficult to obtain an exam date in Cairo as more candidates tend to take their exams there. So if you are planning to take your exam in Cairo you will need to schedule your exam early on.
