Fundamentals in Critical Care Course (FCCS)

About the Course

The Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) course provides healthcare professionals, including nonintensivists, with the training to manage critically ill patients for the first 24 hours or until appropriate critical care consultation can be arranged. The course concentrates on adult critical care but also includes separate sections on critical care for pregnancy and pediatrics

SAMA Efforts

From 2013 to 2015, SAMA sponsored the travel of visiting faculty to hold the Fundamentals in Critical Care Support Course (FCCS) in Sudan.
This culminated in establishing Soba University Hospital as a center for the FCCS Course (the 2nd in Africa, and 4th in the MENA region), at a time that Sudan was under US sanctions.

Impact

  1. Increase in FCCS Seats:With Local faculty only, the course can be conducted 4 – 6 times a year, which would mean up to 240 seats per year (average course size is 40 seats); with Visiting Faculty the course, can be conducted once or twice a year
  2. Reduction in cost: With Local faculty only, the costs of the course will be limited to the purchase of books and license.
With Visiting faculty, the cost of airline tickets and hotel, hospitality expenses are shouldered by SAMA & Sadagaat.
