Facts about the health situation in Sudan
Did you know that:
1- 48.8 infants die in every 1000 live births due to the lack of care.
2- 33% of children under five are suffering underweight.
3- According to the World Health Organization, in 2012 the leading cause of death from infectious diseases were acute lower respiratory infections (37,800), tuberculosis (8,000), diarrhea (20,000) and malaria (5,500) with an increasing trend (http://www.who.int/gho/countries/sdn.pdf).
4- Life threatening infections develop due to the lack of basic supplies like sutures, clean needles, gauze and alcohol swabs.
The Sudanese American Medical Association (SAMA) has partnered with Sadagaat on the operation of this clinic with funding of the staff salaries, consumable supplies and durable equipment. SAMA is a U.S. based non-profit, non-political, educational and humanitarian organization. Its members are medical professionals of Sudanese descent.
