Dr. Isam Osman Award For the outstanding surgeon
About
Dr. Isam Osman, who passed away on September 29, 2023, continues to inspire us with his legacy of surgical excellence, leadership, and mentorship. His remarkable contributions to healthcare in Sudan include founding the Sudanese Association of Vascular Surgeons, an organization dedicated to promoting vascular health through academic activities, training, and support. As its first president, Dr. Osman set a standard of commitment and innovation that resonates to this day.
During the crisis in Sudan, Dr. Osman played a pivotal role in humanitarian relief efforts, leveraging his relationship with King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center. His vision also led to the creation of SAMA’s Trauma ECHO program, a virtual learning platform connecting Sudanese surgeons with global trauma surgery experts. In his final act of service, he led a life-saving surgical mission to Port Sudan, showcasing his dedication to improving healthcare even in the most challenging conditions.
To honor his extraordinary contributions and preserve his enduring legacy, SAMA established the Dr. Isam Osman Annual Award. This award recognizes individuals or organizations that embody Dr. Osman’s spirit of innovation, leadership, and commitment to advancing healthcare in Sudan.
The 2025 Dr. Isam Osman Award will be presented during SAMA’s annual summit ceremony, held in Cairo at the end of December. This prestigious award serves as a tribute to Dr. Osman’s profound impact on the medical community and his unwavering dedication to humanitarian efforts.
Join us in celebrating his memory and the ongoing work inspired by his life.
