Project ECHO is a revolutionary guided-practice model that reduces health disparities in underserved and remote areas. Through innovative telementoring, the ECHO model uses a hub-and-spoke knowledge-sharing approach where expert teams lead virtual sessions, amplifying the capacity for providers to deliver best-in-practice care to the underserved in their own communities.
SAMA Project ECHO – Before the war
In 2021, SAMA signed a partnership agreement with Project ECHO to establish hubs and learning sites in Sudan. From August 2021 to April 2023, We launched a hub in our office in Khartoum fully equipped with a solar panel and high-speed internet. We then established learning sites in Khartoum, Northern State, and Gadarif states. We launched Frontline ECHO, Dialysis ECHO, UoK ECHO, Surgery ECHO, OMFS ECHO – 2022, and OMFS ECHO 2023.
SAMA Project ECHO – After the war
On April 15th, 2023, war broke out in Sudan. On April 25th, 2023, our Sudan office director and co-founder, Dr. Bushra Ibnauf Sulieman was killed in the breakdown of the rule of law that followed.
In July 2023, Mr. Abdulmajid Osman, Director of Operations of SAMA Sudan office at the time, established SAMA office in Port Sudan and we named it the Bushra Ibnauf Center for Learning.
We, then launched Trauma ECHO and Dental School ECHO.
