Dr. Isam Osman Humanitarian Mission to Sudan

About the mission 

From 2014 to 2020, SAMA organized surgical missions to Sudan from the USA that performed more than 110 surgeries in public sector hospitals in Sudan. These missions aim to provide direct patient care and train/mentor doctors in Sudan in their environment. Dr. Isam Osman Humanitarian Mission aims to:

  • Provide expert anesthesia support by bringing a US-trained Anesthesiologist to Sudan, who will assist local medical teams in managing surgeries and critical procedures.
  • import anesthesia supplies to public sector hospitals in Sudan.
  • Train Sudan anesthesiologists

Mission Team

Dr. Amir Elhassan

  • Anesthesiology Mission Lead
  • Dr. Elhassan completed his undergraduate education at the University of Maryland, medical school education, and anesthesiology residency at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.  He was faculty at Louisiana State University where he was a residency program director in Anesthesiology. He then joined the faculty at Ohio State University where he then completed a fellowship in cardiac anesthesiology. He then moved to California to work in private practice. Dr. Elhassan remains academically active with more than 30 Pubmed indexed articles, despite working in private practice.
  • Dr. Amir is donating his time and money and leveraging his connections to organize the anesthesiology mission to Port Sudan
