Dialysis

An event organized by Sudan and Brazil

An ISN Sister Renal Center Pair 2021

Background:

Sudan has many dialysis units serving a large number of patients with kidney failure. Dialysis care is complex and requires a thorough understanding of deranged physiology and body disturbances. Unique issues include dialysis modalities, access, adequacy, anemia, and bone disease.

As part of the ISN Sister activities, this comprehensive course provides a virtual platform in which caring physicians can present cases, discuss with and learn from experts, and exchange expertise with peers across Sudan.

The goal is the provision of superior patient care that is LIFE-SAVING and COST-EFFECTIVE.

Objective

Train Sudanese dialysis units’ staff to:

  • Stage and delay progression of chronic kidney disease
  • Plan and secure the best dialysis access for individual patients
  • Diagnose and treat dialysis emergencies
  • Manage access complications
  • Prescribe and monitor dialysis adequately
  • Recognize and manage complications of end-stage kidney disease
  • Select and prepare patients for peritoneal dialysis
  • Identify the role of continuous kidney replacement therapy
  • Improve presentation skills
