SAMA Internship Program

About
In 2021, following SAMA’s designation as an official Project ECHO hub, the organization launched its internship program in Khartoum to provide recent medical graduates with structured, hands-on experience. Initially focused on supporting ECHO session facilitation, the program quickly evolved to encompass broader professional development. Interns gained valuable skills in English-language communication, project coordination, and virtual collaboration—supported by a professional workspace equipped with high-speed internet and solar-powered electricity. For many participants, this experience served as a critical foundation for future academic and professional pursuits.
Several alumni of the program have since have assumed leadership roles within SAMA itself, culminating in the appointment of an internship alumnus to the Board of Directors in 2025.
In Sudan, following the outbreak of war and the loss of both our Khartoum facility and our beloved colleague Dr. Bushra Ibnauf, SAMA reestablished its physical presence in Sudan under the leadership of Mr. Abdulmajid Osman in Port Sudan in 2003, and Gedarif in 2025. We also recruited interns as independent contractors in Cairo who later on became organizational staff.
The program concluded in December 2025 and was replaced by the Future Leaders Program.
