Appointment of Dr. Mohamed Essam Ahmed (Abadi) as SAMA Secretary General (2026–2027 Term)

The Sudanese American Medical Association (SAMA) proudly announces the appointment of Dr. Mohamed Essam Ahmed (Abadi) as Secretary General for the 2026–2027 term, following a unanimous Board vote on August 16, 2025. A University of Khartoum graduate (MBBS, 2021), Dr. Ahmed gained clinical experience as a house officer before joining SAMA’s Cairo team in 2024, where he helped develop the Learning Management System. Mentored by Dr. Bushra Ibnauf, he embodied excellence and service, later matching into Neurology at the Medical College of Georgia. At under 30, he becomes SAMA’s youngest Secretary General, symbolizing mentorship, growth, and youth empowerment.

US Residency Match – March 2024

Dr. Azza Elfadil Abbas Abdalla graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum in 2021.
She joined SAMA internship program in July 2022. She was assigned to #UoKECHO, the Project ECHO activity that connected medical students from the University of Khartoum with global experts in Internal Medicine with learning sites in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum.
In March 2024, she successfully “matched” into Internal Medicine Residency in USA.
She is pictured presenting an abstract about Dialysis ECHO in the World Congress of Nephrology held in Bangkok, Thailand in March 2023.
US Residency Match – Feb 2024

Dr. Khalid Osman graduated from Alneelain University in 2017. He was the first of two interns to enroll in the SAMA internship program from SAMA’s office in Khartoum, Sudan.
He was the coordinator for SAMA’s first Project ECHO program, Frontline ECHO, which connected learners in Sudan with global subject matter experts in Cardiology.
Appointment to SAMA Management Team – Jan 2024

Dr. Omer Abdalla Marzoug Gomaa ,graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum in 2021. He joined SAMA internship program in June 2022. He was assigned to #UoKECHO, the Project ECHO activity that connected medical students from the University of Khartoum with global experts in Internal Medicine with learning sites in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum. He also coordinated Surgery ECHO.
In January 2024, he was appointed to the position of Director of Operations in SAMA’s Sudan office in Port Sudan.
Appointment to SAMA Management Team – July 2023

Dr. Mohamed Almahal graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum in 2021. He joined SAMA internship program in June 2022. He was assigned to #UoKECHO, the Project ECHO activity that connected medical students from the University of Khartoum with global experts in Internal Medicine with learning sites in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum.
In July 2023, he was appointed to the SAMA Management team to coordinate SAMA’s Humanitarian Relief Program. He was later promoted to Executive Director in January 2025.

MetaECHO – September 2023

Ahmed Jamal and Omer Abdalla were still in Sudan, so Salaheldin Abusin presented “Frontline ECHO: Bridging Gaps in Training of Junior Doctors in Cardiac Emergencies” on their behalf.

Noora Abubaker logged in from Dongola, Northern Sudan, backed up by Mohamed Almahal in Cairo. They presented “SurgeryECHO, Project ECHO SAMA Experience; A Process Evaluation”
Wisal Mirghani Eltayeb – November 2022
Wisal Mirghani, SAMA intern, traveled to Nairobi, Kenya, and participated in VRiMS 8.
Virtual Reality in Medicine & Surgery (VRIMS) is an immersive experience for clinical demonstrators of medical and surgical techniques and simulation training. The VRiMS group is based at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, Brighton and Sussex Medical School, and the Royal Sussex County Hospital, United Kingdom.



US Residency Match – March 2022

Dr. Ali Warrag, Dialysis ECHO Coordinator, & Dr. Abubaker Shadoul M. Farah, Dialysis ECHO Facilitator successfully matched into US Residency.
Both have set high standards of professionalism in their work with Project ECHO SAMA Program.
