Call for Applications: SAMA Research Ethics Review Committee (ERC)
The Sudanese American Medical Association (SAMA) is pleased to invite applications to join its Research Ethics Review Committee (ERC), established to ensure that all research conducted under SAMA upholds the highest ethical and scientific standards.
The ERC plays a central role in reviewing research proposals involving human participants, their data, or biological specimens, with particular attention to the unique challenges of conducting research in low-resource and humanitarian settings such as Sudan.
Guided by internationally recognized frameworks, including CIOMS and national research ethics guidelines, the committee ensures that all research adheres to core ethical principles, including respect for persons, beneficence, justice, cultural sensitivity, and participant safety
About the Role
Members of the ERC are responsible for:
- Contributing to ethical oversight in clinical, humanitarian, and educational research
- Reviewing research proposals submitted through SAMA’s research platform
- Assessing ethical considerations, including informed consent, data protection, and participant safety
- Providing timely and constructive feedback to researchers
Who Should Apply
We are seeking professionals who:
- Are committed to upholding ethical standards in humanitarian and health research
- Are familiar with the Sudanese or similar low-resource contexts
- Have prior experience in research, clinical practice, or public health
- Demonstrate strong understanding of research ethics and regulatory frameworks
Commitment
- Committee members serve renewable two-year terms
- Reviews are conducted within defined timelines (typically within two weeks per assignment)
- Participation is voluntary and contributes to SAMA’s mission of advancing ethical, impactful research
