Cohort 1-2024
About SAMA volunteers cohort 1 – 2024
This month’s community newsletter is dedicated to SAMA volunteers. In 2024, SAMA streamlined volunteers into cohorts with the first cohort working from January 2024 to mid April 2024. Volunteers worked with the management team in designing and implementing the Ramadan fundraising campaign that raised more than $60,000.
Asim Osman, Phoenix, AZ, USA
Asim Osman, a recent pre-med graduate from Arizona State University, joined SAMA’s fundraising team as a volunteer in December of 2023.
SAMA’s dedication to humanitarian relief in Sudan, medical education, and fostering future doctors like himself through a wealth of workshops and scholarships inspire him. Asim attributes that the open discussions with his team foster communication skills and that he has garnered valuable insights into fundraising strategies and donor retention.
SAMA has equipped Asim to hone proficiency in organizing online campaigns through LaunchGood, GoFundMe, and MailChimp, refining his communication skills by customizing messaging for diverse audiences and platforms. Asim asserts that SAMA empowers him to connect with fellow Sudanese working for a positive change, and to act by directly aiding Sudan- a cause close to his heart!
Mehad Osman, Cairo, Egypt
Mehad Osman, a 2020 graduate of dentistry from the University of Khartoum, is dedicated to advancing oral health. After working at the Khartoum Dental Teaching Hospital and Omdurman Military Hospital as a general practitioner until April 2023, Osman had to relocate to Egypt due to the ongoing war situation. She continues her work as an online oral medicine tutor for dental students, while also exploring opportunities in public health.
Since November of 2023, Mehad has been volunteering with SAMA raising funds. She believes her involvement with SAMA has been very enriching, not only in gaining valuable soft and technical skills but also in deepening her understanding of humanitarian work and strategic planning. Mehad appreciates the collaborative and unwavering support of the SAMA team. She says that working alongside such dedicated members fosters a positive influence making every task feel achievable.
Mustafa Elamin, Dubai, UAE
Mustafa Elamin, a medical graduate from Al-Neelain University, is driven by a zealous interest in the field of internal medicine, particularly in cardiology and gastroenterology. Following the turmoil of war, like many other Sudanese, Mustafa had to depart Khartoum and currently resides in Dubai. He dreams of charting a new course for and rebuilding his future, a journey he embarked by joining SAMA in September 2023, as a graphic designer, creating poster designs and reports.
Mustafa attributes volunteering with SAMA to enriching his professionalism and communication skills significantly, while also helping him to forge connections and friendships with remarkable individuals. He finds that supporting SAMA’s diverse initiatives with humanitarian aid and ECHO knowledge-sharing programs deeply resonates with his core beliefs and perspectives on life.
Eman El-jack, Dubai, UAE
Eman El-Jack, a dentist graduate of the University of Khartoum, is embarking on a new chapter of her career in the UAE. Eman loves to read, write, draw, and listen to music. Passionate about giving back, Eman joined SAMA in August 2023 as a social media volunteer and later transitioned to supporting humanitarian relief efforts. She has contributed to the End of Year and Ramadan campaigns, securing meals for the displaced Sudanese in White Nile and Sinnar states.
Eman has penned stories raising awareness about the current situation in Sudan. She acknowledges that SAMA, through its flexible schedule and supportive environment, has empowered her to effectively aid her community, fostering adaptability, teamwork, and leadership skills. Her experience with SAMA has been a journey of growth, one that has given her the tools to excel and contribute, rewarding all around her, says Eman. Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to make a positive difference, she hopes to inspire others to pursue their passions and contribute to their communities, emphasizing the significance of even the smallest of actions.
Raheeq Hussam, Cairo, Egypt
Raheeq Hussam, passionate about clinical practice, community, and public health initiatives alike, is a medical graduate from the University of Khartoum. As a SAMA content creator volunteer since July 2023, Raheeq believes that witnessing firsthand impacts of collective efforts, providing aid and support to those affected by conflict and crisis, has been an extremely rewarding and fulfilling experience. Inspiring opportunities such as Dr. Bushra Ibnauf’s Learning Centre in Port Sudan, feeding services to the displaced Sudanese, and Dr. Isam Osman’s humanitarian mission to Port Sudan, make Raheeq feel proud to be associated with SAMA. She acknowledges the collaborative spirit, mentorship, dedication, and teamwork within the organization as key factors that make it so enjoyable to volunteer.
She is grateful for Dr. Almahal’s unwavering support. She chose SAMA to preserve the legacy of her teacher, Dr. Bushra Ibnauf. SAMA upholds his values and aligns perfectly with everything that Dr. Bushra Ibnauf instilled in his students, Raheeq finds; her mentor’s lessons push her towards working for the betterment of society through service.
Ammar Yasir
Ammar Yasir chose to pursue his lifelong passion for photography instead of continuing as a student in the electronics engineering program at the Sudan University of Science and Technology (SUST) after the outbreak of war in Sudan. What started as a hobby has now blossomed into a full-time career path. Yassir believes that photography and videography are among the most effective ways to tell a story. Having served with SAMA since February 2024 in video editing, he celebrates SAMA as a vibrant environment, with young individuals eager to connect and make a positive difference. Yassir is inspired by the commitment and dedication of everyone in SAMA and the transparency amongst everyone including SAMA leaders. Yaasir is eager to make a difference through his lens of storytelling.
