Dr. Bushra Ibnauf Lifetime Achievement Award- International Edition
In recognition of his significant contribution to people in Sudan, The Sudanese American Medical Association provides the Dr. Bushra Ibnauf Lifetime Achievement Award- International Edition to Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim.
Dr. Ibraim is an Obstetrician-Gynecologist based in Rockingham, North Carolina, United States. He received his medical degree from the University of Khartoum in 1996 and has been practicing for over 20 years. In 2014, he was ranked as the top Obstetrician and Gynecologist in Richmond County, USA
Dr. Ibrahim made substantial fundraising efforts to support Sudan’s Women’s Health program. He donated $10,000 and raised additional funds from his local community in NC toward training health professionals. He acquired equipment worth $45,000 to establish the colposcopy unit at Soba University Hospital, in addition to $50,000 worthy of surgical supplies donated to several hospitals in Sudan.
In 2016, Dr. Ibrahim introduced the Jhpiego midwifery training program to Sudan and worked with the faculty of the University of Gezira to translate the materials into Arabic. He then trained over 2,000 midwives in 6 states in partnership with the University of Gezira and the Obstetric and Gynecology Society in Sudan.
Dr. Ibrahim devoted his time and resources to training obstetric and gynecology specialists to provide better care for mothers in Sudan. In 2016 and 2018, he organized the training of trainers workshops, which targeted over 60 physicians, who were trained virtually through telegram on performing cervical colposcopy, several months before implementing the practical sessions. These workshops were attended by physicians working in Gulf countries, highlighting his regional impact.
SAMA humanitarian Relief Award for Services in Hard times
In recognition of his commitment to providing essential support to people in Khartoum in spite of a heinous war, SAMA is presenting its’ Humanitarian Relief Award to Hadhreen.
In 2015, Hadhreen was established as an initiative and later registered officially as an organization in 2021. It made substantial contributions to emergency response, healthcare, and support for vulnerable groups.
In 2022, Hadhreen focused on the care and treatment of individuals injured during the protests and financially supported the families of those who were killed. Embracing global standards, Hadhreen aspires to serve as a model for national NGOs. With a commitment to achieving global sustainable development goals, the organization actively engages in mitigating the effects of emergencies and disasters while promoting justice and social protection for vulnerable groups such as orphans, persons with disabilities, and women.
After the war broke out in Sudan on April 15th, 2023, Hadhreen continued to deliver urgent aid to families and vulnerable groups trapped in Khartoum in the midst of a heinous war. Hadhreen’s team secured daily meals for 3000 families through central kitchens located across 19 locations in Khartoum. They also supported the elderly individuals at the elderly home and the orphans at Dar Almygoma in Khartoum and Wad Medani.
Th award will be presented in SAMA’s award ceremony on Saturday, 25th, 2024 in Virginia, USA. The award will be received by Mr. Nazim Sirag, the executive director and the general manager of the Hadhreen organization.
As a reminder, the Bushra Ibnauf Lifetime Achievement Award – international edition will be presented to Dr. Mutaz Ahmed in the same ceremony.
SAMA Leadership Award
The Sudanese American Medical Association is presenting Dr. Ezzeldin Saleh SAMA Leadership Award for his substantial efforts in the organization
Dr. Ezzeldin Saleh is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Southern Illinois School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree at the University of Khartoum, Sudan, and completed his pediatric residency at Penn State Hershey Medical Center and his fellowship training at Duke University.
In 2008, Dr. Saleh, along with four of his US-trained colleagues, founded the Sudanese American Medical Association in the United States to support junior doctors and health professionals in Sudan. “Our organization is pioneering and spearheading numerous collaborative projects, including maternal and childhood health, support of infectious disease projects in Mycetoma and rheumatic heart disease as an example, and dealing with capacity building and professional development projects for healthcare professionals,” Dr. Saleh said in an interview by the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society.
During his journey with SAMA, Dr. Saleh held important positions in the Organization including Vice-chair of the Board of Trustees and president.
SAMA Corporate Award
SAMA is presenting SAMA Corporate Award to Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach for generously supporting SAMA
Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach has partnered with SAMA since 2020 to ship high-quality medical supplies and equipment to Sudan. Between 2020 and 2022 HMSO shipped four 40ft containers of medical supplies with a fair market value of over 700K USD. These supplies were distributed to public hospitals in more than 8 states across Sudan.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, HSMO secured a grant of $8,000 to cover the cost of supplies in support of the pandemic hardship.
HMSO has recently supported the Anesthesiology Mission to Sudan in February of 2024.
