
About the Program
The Relevant Research ECHO is a virtual, interactive learning series launched by the SAMA through the Project ECHO model. Designed specifically for medical students and junior doctors in Sudan, this program equips participants with the essential skills to carry out impactful, real-world research that addresses pressing local health challenges.
From formulating the right research question to publishing findings in academic journals, the program walks learners through the complete research journey.

Dr. Eldisugi Humida
Dr. Eldisugi Hassan Mohammed Humida is a Consultant Cardiologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine and Cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kordofan. He specializes in cardiology with a strong focus on interventional cardiology and epidemiology. Dr. Eldisugi is a dedicated academic and researcher, contributing significantly to medical science through numerous publications in high-impact journals indexed in Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus. His work reflects a commitment to advancing cardiovascular health and improving patient care. Through his teaching, research, and clinical expertise, he plays a vital role in training the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Dr. Yagoub Musa
Dr. Yagoub Musa is a Consultant Cardiologist at King Saud Medical City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, specializing in interventional cardiology and heart failure. A graduate of the University of Gezira, he earned the MRCP-UK and FRCP (London). He completed cardiology training in Sudan, followed by a fellowship in interventional cardiology at the National Heart Center in Singapore and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Heart Failure from the University of Zurich. He also completed Harvard University’s Global Clinical Scholar Research Training (GCSRT) program. Dr. Musa founded Sudan’s first Heart Failure Unit and led the Sudan Heart Failure Group.

Dr. Amjad Ahmed
Dr. Amjad M. A. Ahmed is a distinguished cardiologist and clinical researcher at King Abdulaziz Medical City for National Guard. With a Master’s in Clinical and Epidemiological Research and an MBBS from the University of Gezira, he specializes in adult cardiology. His work spans cardiovascular diagnostics, hypertension, and heart failure, contributing significantly to international research through publications, conferences, and clinical trials. Dr. Amjad holds editorial roles and has received multiple regional and international accolades. Known for his collaborative spirit and mentorship, he actively advances cardiovascular medicine through innovative research and global engagement in the cardiology community.

Dr. Ahmed Suliman
Dr. Ahmed Suliman is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Khartoum and Chief of Professional Staff at the Cardiac Center, Prince Mohamed Bin Salman Hospital in Aden. With over 15 years of academic and research experience, he has published extensively on cardiology in Sudan and contributed to major African cardiovascular registries. He has co-directed and served on faculty for leading cardiology conferences such as Africa PCR, PAFCIC, and PASCAR. Dr. Suliman has also served on the executive committees of the Sudan Heart Society and PASCAR and is currently President of the Sudan Hypertension Society.

Dr. Sulafa Ali
Dr. Sulafa Ali is a Professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Sharjah and the University of Khartoum. With over 20 years of clinical expertise, she specializes in echocardiography and cardiac catheterization for congenital heart defects. She holds a Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology from King Abdulaziz Heart Center and is a member of the World Heart Association and WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean group. Dr. Ali has published over 110 research papers and a book chapter. Her contributions to cardiovascular health have earned her prestigious awards, including the WHO Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Award and the World Heart Federation Advocacy Award.

Dr. Ghaiath Hussein
Dr. Ghaiath Hussein is an Assistant Professor of Medical Ethics at Trinity College Dublin, with a focus on public health ethics and bioethics in challenging contexts. He specializes in ethical issues arising in clinical settings, public health emergencies, and humanitarian crises, including research ethics during armed conflicts. He contributes to global initiatives like the Ukrainian Clinical Research Support Initiative and GOREAC. Dr. Hussein earned his PhD in Bioethics from the University of Birmingham and a Master’s from the University of Toronto. A passionate educator, he mentors students and develops ethics curricula, earning a nomination for the Trinity Excellence in Teaching Awards.

Dr. Salaheldin Abusin
Dr. Salaheldin Abusin, MD, MBA, MS, is a cardiologist and Assistant Professor with a Master of Science in Clinical Research from Rush University. His thesis focused on leveraging structured data models to improve research efficiency and insights. He holds educational certification from the American Board of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and is a daily user of AI tools in his workflow. He also has hands-on experience with REDCap, powered by AWS, for secure electronic data capture. Dr. Abusin regularly applies artificial intelligence to literature reviews. In this session, he will present on “Using AI for Literature Review”, sharing practical strategies to enhance evidence synthesis using AI-powered tools.
