Mobile Clinic for Displaced Communities in Tawila, North Darfur

Responding to a Critical Healthcare Gap in One of Sudan’s Hardest-Hit Areas

Mobile Clinic for Displaced Communities in Tawila, North Darfur

Tawila locality in North Darfur has become a lifeline for hundreds of thousands of people fleeing intense conflict and violence, particularly from El Fasher. As displacement continues to surge, access to healthcare has emerged as one of the most urgent and unmet needs. Many internally displaced persons (IDPs) arrive in Tawila exhausted, malnourished, injured, and suffering from untreated medical conditions—yet unable to access even basic health services.

While most humanitarian health responses currently prioritize children under five, a critical gap remains in services for adults, pregnant and lactating women, and vulnerable host communities. This project aims to fill that gap.

SAMA/TADO Partnership

SAMA, in partnership with Tabasheer Organization for Aid and Development (TADO), is launching a mobile clinic to deliver lifesaving primary healthcare services directly within IDP gathering sites in Tawila. The mobile clinic will bring essential medical care to people who cannot safely or affordably travel to fixed health facilities, particularly in newly formed and hard-to-reach settlements Mobile Clinic – Tawila.

The clinic will address urgent health needs, including:

  • Non-communicable diseases
  • Maternal and reproductive health, including antenatal and postnatal care
  • Basic management of injuries and infections
  • Health education on disease prevention, hygiene, and mosquito net use

Complicated cases will be referred to Tawila Hospital ensuring continuity of care for patients requiring advanced treatment

Target Population

The project primarily serves:

  • Internally displaced persons (IDPs)
  • People living in remote or newly established settlements
  • Host communities affected by the crisis
  • Pregnant and lactating women

Estimated Impact

  • Serve 2,000–4,000 patients
  • Establish and operate one fully functional mobile clinic
  • Provide thousands of medical consultations and treatment courses
  • Distribute essential medications, including antibiotics, antimalarials, IV fluids, and wound care supplies
  • Reduce preventable illness, complications, and deaths among conflict-affected adults
